Appian Creek Stewardship Project

Project Description: SPAWNERS is working with local community members and youth from the Boys & Girls Club to transform a stretch of forgotten and degraded creek into a blooming environmental education site. To date, volunteers have cleared invasive weeds and grasses from 225 linear feet of creek bank, laid coconut fiber restoration cloth to prevent further erosion and promote stabilization, and installed 195 native plants, including columbine, honeysuckle, and ninebark. The goal of the project is to improve Appian Creek for both people and wildlife while educating the community about caring for creeks and preserving water quality. The restoration will also help reduce flooding and erosion and will be part of a new stream-side park being built by the Boys and Girls Club. SPAWNERS holds regular workdays at the site on the second Saturday of each month, 9:30am-12pm.

Details: Celebrate Earth Day and SPAWNERS’ ten year anniversary of community-based action to protect the San Pablo Creek Watershed. We will be hosting a creek clean up along Appian Creek in the morning as part of the county-wide Creeks Challenge, followed by a community BBQ for all clean up participants. Join us for prizes, educational activities for kids, free food, and the chance to help make our community a cleaner and healthier place.
